Lozol (Indapamide)

Usage indication

Lozol is used for hypertension treatment (high blood pressure). It is also used for discharge of liquid, on liquid accumulation in organism together with edema and constant heart insufficiency.

Application mode

Lozol is taken once a day in the morning before breakfast. It can be  taken during meal or afterwards. Antacids do not influence Lozol activity.

Mechanism of action

Lozol is a diuretic (water pill) that is primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It works by preventing the kidney from reabsorbing (retaining in the body) salt and water that is destined to be eliminated in the urine. This results in increased urine output (diuresis). Lozol also is thought to reduce the salt in the smooth muscle of the walls of blood vessels. (The salt ultimately is eliminated in the urine.) The loss of salt from the muscle causes the muscle to relax, and the relaxation of the vessels results in reduced blood pressure.

Missed doses

During single miss of doze intake, it is necessary to take the doze as soon as possible. If the time of missed doze intake corresponds to the time of next doze intake the drug intake should be missed. The double dosage is prohibited for intake.

Storage

Lozol should be stored at the temperature from 15 degrees (59 F degrees) and 30 C degrees (86 F degrees).

Precautions

Contact your doctor before this drug intake in case you had heavy allergic reactions to this drug or any other drug containing sulfonamide (Septra DS, DS Bactrim, Gantrisin, glibenclamide or probenecide). The symptoms of heavy allergic reaction can include rash, nettle rash, breathing problems or giddiness. Consult your doctor on the possibility of potassium add-ons intake. Strictly follow potassium dosage. Do not start potassium intake independently or change your diet by including more potassium without doctor prior consultation. 

This drug can cause giddiness. Do not drive, operate mechanisms or do other dangerous things in case if you take this drug for the first time. Consult your doctor before starting taking any new drug.

Women: this drug discharge with mother milk had not been detected. Breast feeding during this drug intake is not recommended.

Side effects

Lozol can cause dehydration. Hypokaliemia ( low potassium level due to potassium liquidation at urine) is one of the most widespread side effects related to the intake of tiazide class diuretics can cause abnormal heart rhythm. The most widespread side effect related to Hypokaliemia is a muscle weakness. Patients taking lozol might need potassium add-ons to prevent hypokaliemia. Hypomagnesemia (low magnesium level) can occur as well. Other possible side effects include excessive sodium loss ( can cause sexual hyperactivity at eldery people, cholesterol level increase ( this effect tend to decrease during long intake),  increased concentration of urine acid in blood, headache, giddiness, blurred vision, members twinges, nervousness, impotence, rash, photo sensibility ( skin rash due to sun light), irritation, tiredness and agitation.
