Ilosone (Erythromycin)

APPLICATION

Ilosone is used to treat infections caused by certain bacteria. It is also used to prevent bacterial endocarditis and rheumatic fever. It can also be used in other cases, in consultation with the doctor.

MODE OF APPLICATION

Use Ilosone as prescribed your doctor. Follow the directions on the label.

  • Ilosone is taken during or after a meal. When it is an upset stomach, should be taken with food to reduce stomach irritation.
  • Tablets should be swallowed whole.
  • While receiving the medicine should not eat grapefruit or juice from them.
  • Ilosone works best if taken at the same time each day.
  • To recover completely, take a full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better within a few days.
  • If you miss a dose Ilosone, you should take it as soon as possible. If this happens during the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule of dosage. Do not take 2 doses at once.

THE MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ilosone is a macrolide antibiotic. It works by slowing or even destruction of sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed for the survival of bacteria.

MISSED DOSE

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If this occurred while taking your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine the next time the plan. Do not take a double dose.

STORAGE

Store this medication at room temperature in a tightly closed container away from heat and light.

Precautionary measures

DO NOT use Ilosone if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient Ilozon
  • you are taking astemizole, cisapride, conivaptan, diltiazem, dofetilide, ergot alkaloids (e.g., dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), everolimus, an inhibitor of HIV protease (e.g., ritonavir), imidazoles (e.g., ketoconazole), nilotinib, pimozide, QT-prolongation agent (e.g. , quinidine, sotalol), quinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin), streptogramin (e.g., quinupristin / dalfopristin), terfenadine, or verapamil

Contact your doctor if any of these items apply to you.

Before using Ilosone:

Some medicines may interact with Ilosone. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are nourishing
  • If you are taking any nonprescription medicines, herbal preparations, or dietary supplements
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances
  • if you have diarrhea or a stomach infection
  • If you have a history of kidney or liver problems, heart problems, fast or irregular heartbeat, myasthenia gravis, or blood diseases

Some medicines may interact with Ilosone. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:

  • astemizole, cisapride, diltiazem, dofetilide, HIV protease inhibitor (e.g., ritonavir), imidazoles (e.g., ketoconazole), nilotinib, pimozide, QT-prolongation agent (e.g., quinidine, sotalol), quinolones (eg ciprofloxacin), streptogramin (e.g. quinupristin / dalfopristin), terfenadine, or verapamil because side effects may occur, such as heart toxicity or irregular heartbeat. Consult your doctor if you have questions about which medicines may affect your heartbeat.
  • Conivaptan, ergot alkaloids (e.g., dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), or everolimus, as the risk of their side effects may be increased when taking Ilosone.
  • Many non-prescription drugs (such as pain, allergies, blood thinners, breathing problems, cancer, diabetes, erection problems, gout, heart problems, high blood calcium levels, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, HIV infections , inflammation, infections, low blood sodium, migraines, mental problems, overactive bladder, Parkinson's disease, prevention of rejection of transplanted organ, seizures, stomach problems, sleep problems), multivitamin products, and herbal or dietary supplements (e.g., herbal teas, coenzyme Q10, garlic, ginseng, ginkgo, St. John's wort) may also interact with Ilosone. SIDE EFFECTS
