Exelon (Rivastigimine)

Usage indications

This drugs is holynesteraze inhibitors and is used for memory loss and thinking problems treatment, related to Alzgamer or Parkinson disease. It can also be  used for other diseases treatment based on doctor recommendations.

Application mode

Exelon is usually taken twice a day during meal

The drug intake is started from lower dosages due to gastrointestinal side effects revealed at the beginning of treatment.

The dosage starts from 1,5 mg twice a day and is increased not often than once in two weeks.

In case of heavy gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach upset or nausea the patient has to stop  the intake of some Exelon doses and then restart the intake or take lower dosage.

The drugs with antiholyenergetic action getting into the brain such as atropine, benzoptropin (Cogentin) and trihexyfenidil (Artane) can decrease Exelon effect so their intake should be stopped during Exelon intake. Unlike dopenezil (Arisept), Exelon does not the increase of drug level in blood and the risk of side effects development.

Mechanism of action

Exelon is for oral intake for the patients suffering from Altzgamer disease. Exelon belongs to holynestareazes inhibitors such as tacrin (Cognex), donezepil (Arisept) and halantamin (Reminil). Holynesteraze inhibitors block the action of antiholynesteraze the ferment responsible for acethylholyn destruction. Acethyl holyn is one of the few neuromediators in brain which neural cells use for their interconnection. The decrease of acethylholyn level in organism is responsible for some Altzgamer disease symptoms development, according to research data. By blocking the ferment destructing acethyholyn Exelon increases acethylholyn concentration in brain and improves thinking abilities.

Missed doses

Do not miss any Exelon intake. During single miss of doze intake it is necessary to take the doze as soon as possible. If the time of missed doze intake corresponds to the time of next doze intake the drug intake should be missed. The double dosage is prohibited for intake.

Storage

Store this drug at room temperature lower than 77 F degrees (25 С degrees) in a tightly closed container away from the sources of heat and light.

Precautions

Do not stop this drug intake without prior consultation with your doctor. Inform about this drug intake when getting any medical or dental assistance, urgent medical assistance or surgery.

This drug can cause sleepiness or giddiness. Do not drive or operate mechanisms or other possibly dangerous operations before you know your reaction to this drug.

This drug usage, the intake in combination with other drugs or alcohol can decrease your ability for driving or performing other possibly dangerous things.

Consult with your doctor before the intake of any new drug sold with or without prescription.
Women: this drug absorption by mother milk had not been studied. Breast feeding is not recommended during this drug intake.

Side effects

Side effects are the following: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, giddiness, sleepiness, increased perspiration, tremor, weakness, unusual tiredness, weight loss, stomach pain, upset or gases. Inform your doctor if these effects persist. Contact your doctor as well if you noticed other effects not listed in this manual.
